Another year starting with all good intentions, a bracing walk on Harlyn Beach.

No snow this Christmas, we did have a cold spell in November but now it’s more like Spring in the garden than Christmas, we have 4 lots of Primroses in flower, and the Camelia has been in full bloom for weeks and there are daffodils on the side of the road at Tresillian .

 

The weather will always keep us guessing.

A happy and healthy new year to everyone, and if we  can have the same summer weather again this year all our guests will be happy. Everyone had such a  wonderful time on the beach last year, no wet suits needed to go into the water and Mediterranean sunshine without the airport problems and dicky tummies.

I hope everyone survived the heatwave last week, thankfully being on the coast we managed to keep the temperature down to around 30c, which is hot enough for me, and we had the sea for a cooling dip when needed.

keeping the plants alive was another  matter , English plants are not suitable for this Mediterranean weather, the Hydrangea was showing signs of distress as early as April so I think in the autumn he’s going to have to move to a shady part of the garden along with the Azalea and I’m going to plant California poppies and other drought tolerant plants in the sunny beds.

Martin and I have been  visiting some of the wonderful local gardens,  who have managed, even in this heat, to keep them looking superb I don’t know how they do it, we also met a very inquisitive little Robin.      Enjoy the rest of the  summer

 

 

Easter is here, we have reopened and the bluebells are out in force to welcome everyone back to Yellow Sands.

As usual during the early part of the year we have been busy with spring cleaning, painting and replacing bedding, curtains and carpets so we are all ready for your visit.

Thankfully all the restaurants and attractions are open with no restrictions this year and looking forward to a busy year.

We hope to see you here too.

Its been an extremely  busy year in Cornwall, as people couldn’t go abroad they came here instead and hopefully they all had a good time.  Most of Cornwall’s accommodation was booked up to the middle of November trying to fit in all the people who couldn’t come  earlier in the year but for the last few weeks we have been resting up ready for the Christmas rush.

The weather has been very confusing for the plants as we have new and old leaves and blossom on our cherry tree all at the same time, the catkins are already growing on the trees in Cardinham woods and the daffs and iris are beginning to break the soil with green shoots to cheer us through January.

We hope you have all stayed safe during this strange time and look forward to seeing you all in Cornwall again next year.

Unfortunately May Day is cancelled again this year so no Obby Oss  will be out on the streets of Padstow singing ” summer is a  coming today” we have other signs to reassure us though, the House Martins are back and nesting under the eves at Yellow Sands, keeping the bug population down, the blossom is out on my apple tree and the blue bells are glorious.

The gardens are open all over Cornwall , we visited Pinetum gardens the other day, the gardens is so colourful and the tea and cake is very good.

 

 

 

 

 

Visit Cornwall have put together an excellent guide for spring walks on the  Coastal Path

Five walks with breath-taking views chosen from our friends at The South West Coast Path. Breathe in the freshness of the sea, listen to the waves breaking on the shoreline and take in the panoramic views of outstanding natural beauty along the Cornish coastline.

Boscastle and Pentargon Waterfall (1.7 miles)

The Coast Path runs between a stone hedge, covered in the lichen sea ivory, and the open maritime grassland topping the cliffs, home to colourful wild flowers such as Dyer’s Greenweed and Saw-wort.

Rosemullion Head Circular (4 miles)

A circular walk with spectacular views of Rosemullion Head, secluded coves and the beautiful Helford estuary, where wild garlic and bluebells grow in abundance along its banks at this time of the year.

Pencarrow Head and Pont Pill (4 miles)

A mixture of stunning coastline and hidden creeks on this walk to the east of Fowey. Look out for the orchids in the spring, visit the church where Daphne du Maurier got married and, if you’re feeling energetic, take the path down to Lantic Beach.

Kelsey Head and Holywell (5.3 miles)

Kelsey Head is a Site of Special Scientific Interest with a wide range of habitats, the most extensive being the sand dune system and the maritime grassland. Watch out for seals around The Chick and check out the prehistoric cliff castle on the headland.

Lamorna and St Loy (5.6 miles)

From magical Lamorna Cove this walk follows the South West Coast Path to St Loy’s where in the spring the stunted oak and sycamore coastal woodland is bright with wildflowers. Going back, enjoy walking through ancient fields passing stone crosses and standing stones.

Its so good to be able to open up again on 12th April, we are currently spring cleaning and soon to start painting and getting every thing ready for the big day. We have been replacing internal doors in Sharmalyn and wardrobe doors in apartment 6 so far.

Even the weather has cheered up its been bright and sunny here sine Friday  so after we have done our office work we will have a walk in the sunshine, we walked along the coastal path at Bedruthan steps the other day it was lovely to see the spring flowers.

We don’t have very many vacancies left as booking has been manic, you can find our current vacancies on the calendar.

We hope to see everyone back again during the year ahead.
